Oops! How is a mobile home transported?

Transporting a mobile home is a tricky task, as many parameters must be taken into account. Fortunately, there is a solution for everything, but it is important to be prepared that it will not be as simple as ordering a new refrigerator or doing your weekly grocery shopping.

The biggest challenge during mobile home transportation is that the fully assembled structure must arrive at the installation site in one piece. This can cause some headaches, especially in the case of expandable sizes, L-shaped or U-shaped constructions.

Why is mobile home transport a special case?

Even the smallest mobile home – for example, Ecomodul’s 6×3 or 7×3 m² models – can already cause difficulties on public roads. Unlike traditional lightweight prefabricated houses, mobile homes are not delivered in parts for on-site assembly, but arrive as a single finished unit.

You can easily imagine what kind of traffic disruption even a Mini Ecomodul could cause if transported during daytime traffic on public roads. Not only would the special transport vehicle struggle with other traffic participants, but visibility for following vehicles would also be significantly reduced.

This would be highly dangerous, especially in narrow streets where maneuvering space is limited, potentially endangering parked cars and even buildings. Therefore, special regulations must be followed when transporting mobile homes.

How to transport a mobile home safely?

First of all, a specially designed transport truck and a escort vehicle are required. In addition, a crane is essential for loading and unloading and placing the mobile home at its designated location. It is important to note that mobile homes cannot be towed long-term.

A carefully planned transport route is also necessary to avoid dead ends or obstacles such as low bridges that the loaded structure could not pass under.

According to regulations for oversized transport, mobile homes may only be transported at night or early morning hours when traffic is lighter. Special permits are also required, as even with reduced traffic, the transport still affects road flow.

What else should you pay attention to during transport?

Since the details matter, it is highly recommended to take out full-value insurance for the mobile home during transport. This protects both your property and your finances in case of an accident.

It is also advisable to complete site preparation before transport, including landscaping and utility installation if necessary. Ideally, the foundation (whether concrete or ground screws) should already be ready, utilities should be pre-installed, and the ground should be level.

In most cases, mobile home installation is carried out by the manufacturer (as is possible with Ecomodul), but site preparation and utility connections are the responsibility of the client. Therefore, careful coordination of all tasks and transport scheduling is essential.

Although coordinating mobile home transport and installation may seem like a complex logistical operation, it is still a faster and more cost-effective solution than traditional construction. With proper planning and compliance, a new office, shop, café, studio, or exhibition space can be ready within weeks.
